Reports indicate that each of the vehicles costs around 400 million kwacha, sparking public outrage. One of the named beneficiaries from MCP, who reportedly received one of the high-end vehicles. Citizens and civil society groups are now calling on MCP members and other beneficiaries to return the vehicles immediately to the government, stressing that they were bought using taxpayers’ money.

Malawians have also urged the police to act swiftly by confiscating the vehicles before they are hidden or disposed of. According to the critics, both the recipients and the officials who authorized the purchase must be held accountable and face the law.
