Malawi political commentator Michael Utsi has openly declared that his dislike for former President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera was never personal but purely based on poor leadership and failed governance during his tenure.
Speaking to his followers, Utsi said Chakwera failed to manage the affairs of the country, leading to economic hardships, corruption scandals, and loss of public trust. “I never hated Chakwera because of personal issues or family matters,” Utsi clarified. “I simply couldn’t support his failed style of leadership and the suffering it brought to Malawians.”

Utsi emphasized that under Chakwera’s administration, Malawi witnessed a collapsing economy, skyrocketing prices, and unfulfilled promises that left citizens disillusioned.
However, Utsi expressed renewed hope and excitement following the swearing-in of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as Malawi’s new President. “Now that Mutharika is back, I am confident he will fix the mess left behind by Chakwera,” Utsi said.
He added that Mutharika’s experience and proven track record in governance will help restore stability, attract investors, and improve the livelihood of ordinary Malawians.
