Teachers of Mangochi What’sapp group Administrators Condemn Backbiting, Remove Two Headteachers from the group

By Staff Reporter

Teachers of Mangochi administrators have strongly condemned what they describe as growing tendencies of backbiting and character assassination among education officials in the district.
The condemnation follows the removal of two headteachers from the what’s group over allegations that they were attempting to gain political favour by tarnishing the image of fellow educators.

One of those removed is Peter Bula, headteacher of Mponya School in Monkey Bay Zone. According to information shared within the group, Bula allegedly wrote a letter to the Minister of Education, Hon. Bright Msaka, accusing Alex Kananji, current headteacher of Cape Maclear School, of collecting fees from learners in Standards 5 to 8.

However, several teachers have disputed the claims, describing them as misleading and unfounded. Some members further alleged that the accusations may be linked to previous administrative issues and dissatisfaction following Bula’s posting from Cape Maclear to Mponya School. It was also claimed that in his correspondence, Bula identified himself as a follower of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The second headteacher removed from the group is Isabel Khumbanyiwa Nakutho, headteacher of Mchoka School. Reports indicate that she visited the Mangochi District Education Office alleging that Chimwala Primary Education Advisor (PEA) Symon Maziya and Boma PEA Mariam Sambo were aligned to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), and suggested they be removed from their positions. She is also alleged to have made similar political claims regarding headteachers from Koche and Makawa schools.
Members of teachers of Mangochi WhatsApp ’ group have dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.

Education stakeholders have since emphasized that in Malawi, civil servants are expected to remain non-partisan and are not permitted to engage in active politics while serving in public office. They have called for professionalism, unity, and adherence to public service regulations within the education sector in Mangochi and beyond.
