A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala has accused government through the Department of Road Traffic of imposing tougher penalties to motorists found flouting road traffic offences in Malawi.
Kamphangala has advised government to do much better than this observing that Malawians are already paying punitive taxes to government every time they deep down their pockets to buy essential goods and services and salaries.

He has warned the DPP led government that if these punitive Road Traffic charges remain as they are today, many Malawians will lose trust with this government and 2030 is not far from.today, the party will be ousted from power.
The MCP diehard said most of the roads in Malawi are full of potholes, instead of using the money realized from.tollgates at Kalinyeke in Dedza and Chingeni in Ntcheu, government has come up with another source of milking Its people.

He said billions and billions of Kwachas are being collected from tollgates questioning government where is this money going? the answer is obvious, the money is going into crooked pockets.
Kamphangala has advised the DPP led government that if it wants to implement these new road traffic charges first, it has to make sure that all the roads in Malawi are maintained and without this happening, government must rescind its decision reached to impose punitive Road Traffic charges.
“The most common road offenses and charges in Malawi,driving without a license K100,000, using an unregistered vehicle K100,000, failure to display number plates K100,000, using phone while driving K50,000, hooting unnecessarily K30,000, no warning triangles K10,000, is this the new Malawi we all wanted? Questioned Kamphangala.

He has appealed to government to scrap off these punitive Road Traffic charges and implement them after Malawians have started seeing the fruits of tollgate revenues on the country’s roads adding that some other people have already nicknamed the new road traffic charges as ” Paper Sunday”
Kamphangala has reminded the DPP led government that MCP was voted out of government for failing to listen to the cries of the citizens and the DPP is walking in the same path, if this is left unchecked, the DPP will be thrown out of government in 2030.
And on a sad note, Kamphangala has asked government through the Ministry of Trade to explain to Malawians why sugar is continuing to be a scarce commodity while the country has three sugar factories and its price has now reached K7000 on the local market and what is government doing to reverse this for the packet of sugar to be sold at an affordable price as it was yesterday.
