The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has intensified pressure on authorities by demanding a thorough, transparent and independent investigation into the tragic June 10, 2024 plane crash that claimed the life of former Vice-President Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others.Malawians Demand Live Radio Broadcast of Chilima Plane Crash Inquiry
In a strongly worded statement signed by Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa, the civil society organisation accused previous investigators of concealing critical information surrounding the deadly military aircraft crash, arguing that the earlier inquiry failed to satisfy Malawians who continue to demand answers.
CDEDI said the nation cannot afford what it described as another “waste of time and resources,” insisting that the ongoing inquiry must finally reveal the full truth behind one of Malawi’s most shocking national tragedies.Final family photo turns tragic: Young doctor couple and children perish in plane crash
“Without mincing words, this time around, Malawians expect nothing but the truth,” reads part of the statement. “Malawians do not expect another waste of time and resources through this probe.”
The organisation further accused the ruling Malawi Congress Party administration of attempting to suppress the truth through what it called a “sham report” that allegedly left citizens with more questions than answers regarding the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the nine victims.Kalindo thanks Mutharika for Chilima’s death fresh inquiry

CDEDI has now expanded its demands, calling for fresh investigations into the death of prominent lawyer Ralph Kasambara, as well as scrutiny into the conduct of Cabinet ministers who attended his burial.
The organisation also wants investigators to examine the actions of security agencies before and after the plane crash, claiming there may have been suspicious conduct that requires public explanation.Final family photo turns tragic: Young doctor couple and children perish in plane crash
In its latest demands, CDEDI has called for testimonies from former President Lazarus Chakwera, former Inspector General of Police Marylne Yolamu, senior police officers and members of the previous commission of inquiry.
The renewed calls are expected to reignite national debate over transparency, accountability and the handling of investigations involving high-profile political figures in Malawi.
As pressure mounts, many Malawians are now waiting to see whether authorities will deliver the comprehensive and credible investigation being demanded or whether the Chilima plane crash mystery will continue to haunt the nation.
