Popular musician and medical doctor Dr. Joram Nyirongo has found himself in hot water after a controversial post mocking People’s Development Party (PDP) leader Kondwani Nankhumwa surfaced on his social media page.
In a letter of apology made available to Malawi Freedom Network, Dr. Nyirongo extended an olive branch to the PDP boss, saying he respects Nankhumwa as an elder and a national figure, and asked for forgiveness “in line with Malawian cultural values.”
“As young people, we must respect our elders. I ask Hon. Nankhumwa to forgive me for what appeared on my page,” reads part of the letter.
But the drama doesn’t end there.
At the end of last month, a post appeared on the doctor’s official page mocking Nankhumwa’s physical appearance—something that sparked national outrage and disbelief. Dr. Nyirongo was quick to issue a public statement, blaming an unknown phone thief for the offensive post.
However, critics and PDP loyalists weren’t buying it.
While the doctor publicly apologized to the Malawian people, he failed to directly mention or apologize to Nankhumwa in that statement—a move that rubbed many the wrong way.
Now under mounting pressure from PDP supporters, Dr. Nyirongo has finally addressed the issue head-on, explicitly asking Nankhumwa for forgiveness.
The PDP camp, still visibly upset, insists the damage was done and that the musician’s apology was long overdue.
