President of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Presidential Candidate of the Blue Alliance, Prof Peter Mutharika, on Monday, 1st September 2025, held whistle-stop campaigns in the Lakeshore districts of Salima and Dedza in the Central Region.
The Blue Alliance, which brings together DPP, AFORD, LEF, and NDP, has positioned Mutharika as its joint candidate ahead of the September elections.
The whistle-stop tours are part of Mutharika’s wider campaign strategy aimed at consolidating support in the Central Region, which is considered a crucial battleground in the forthcoming polls.
He was accompanied by DPP Secretary General, Peter Mukhito, who continues to play a central role in coordinating campaign efforts across the country.

Also present was the DPP Vice President for the Centre, Alfred Gangata, who has been instrumental in mobilizing grassroots support for the party and its alliance partners.
Alliance partners from AFORD, LEF, and NDP also joined the campaign, signaling the unity of the Blue Alliance as it seeks to challenge the ruling Malawi Congress Party in the elections.
Several DPP National Governing Council Members were also in attendance, underscoring the party’s commitment to presenting a united front during the campaign.
In addition, DPP Shadow Members of Parliament for the Central Region accompanied Mutharika, using the opportunity to engage with voters in their respective constituencies.
The campaign events in Salima and Dedza provided Mutharika with a platform to articulate his vision for economic recovery, governance reforms, and improved service delivery.

Mutharika’s Lakeshore campaign tour not only reinforced his presence in the Central Region but also showcased the solidarity of the Blue Alliance.
