Nkhata Bay district council is today holding a duo commemorations of World AIDS Day and Candlelight memorial.
The commemorations have commenced with a solidarity walk of about a kilometer from Nkhata Bay post office to the venue at fisheries office in the district under the theme, “we remember, we take action, we live beyond HIV.”
Nkhata Bay district council officials, non-governmental organizations, religious leaders from different denominations and traditional leaders are mong those attending with guest of honour being the council’s Chairperson, Councilor Malani Kafunda.

The commemoration has also been graced with traditional dances, songs, poems and drama.
Acording to the district council’s spokesperson, Patrick Botha, the event failed to take place in December, last year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The World AIDS Day is being commemorated on 1st December every year.
