A total of 22 members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have obtained an injunction restraining the party from implementing its decision to appoint George Chaponda as the new Leader of Opposition.
The High Court in Lilongwe granted the injunction.
Lawyer for the claimants, Wapona Kita, told the press that the election of Chaponda violates the legislators’ political right to vote for a Leader of Opposition as they were not invited to the meeting that elected Chaponda.
Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda has set the interparty hearing for July 7, 2022. – MBC Online Services.
