Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) aspirant for Mangochi Municipal Constituency, Rodrick Chiwaya, has vowed to champion the welfare of the youth and spearhead meaningful development if elected in the forthcoming September 16 general elections.
Speaking during a community engagement meeting in Mangochi on Tuesday, Chiwaya called on the youth to distance themselves from acts of political violence, warning that such behavior only undermines their future.
“We have a duty to protect the peace of this town. I urge all young people to reject being used as tools of violence during this campaign period. Instead, let us focus on building a better future together,” said Chiwaya.

On matters of development, Chiwaya underscored the need to transform Mangochi into a vibrant municipality worthy of its status as a leading tourist destination in Malawi.
“Our town deserves better infrastructure, modern markets, and improved services. We can achieve this by attracting serious investors who will create jobs and uplift our community,” he said.
Chiwaya further stressed that his vision is anchored on youth empowerment, local investment, and peaceful coexistence — key pillars he believes will drive Mangochi’s growth.
As the campaign season heats up, Chiwaya’s message of peace and development has begun to resonate with many in the lakeshore district, setting the stage for a closely watched race in the constituency.
