Earlier in the day, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was evacuated from the President’s House in capital Colombo before thousands of protestors stormed his residence.
The cash-strapped nation extended school closures because there is not enough fuel for teachers and parents to get children to classrooms, with most pumping stations being without fuel for days.
