MPS AND DMI IN CAPACITY-BUILDING PARTNERSHIP

The Malawi Prison Service has entered into a partnership with DMI St. John The Baptist University that will help in capacity building and training of the department’s officers.

Through the agreement, spouses of prison officers will also be allowed to attain education through DMI.

In return, students who have completed their education at DMI University will also have a chance to get an internship at Malawi Prison Service.

Commissioner of Prisons Responsible for Administration, Clement Kainja, said the agreement has come at the right time when the department is undergoing reforms.

“The Prison Department can only achieve these reforms if it has competent staff. Competent staff performance is essential in fulfilling the government
development agenda including Malawi 2063,” he said.

The memorandum of understanding also has tailor-made programmes that attune to prison officers’ core work which includes managing offenders.
