Government says establishing Paramount Chiefs Council will help to reduce backlog of chieftaincy wrangles that are derailing development in the country.

Minister of local government and rural development Professor Blessings Chinsinga, indicates government is overwhelmed with the disputes that courts are failing to resolve since they are grounded in traditions and culture.

However, after installing Traditional Authority Thukuta (Anderson Jonathan) today of Thyolo, Chinsinga has commended the chieftaincy for being peaceful since its existence from 1935.

Speaking on behalf of chiefs in the district, Senior Chief Thomas, says, Thukuta chieftaincy is a classic example of peace in the country, advising the newly installed Mang’anja traditional leader to sustain the legacy, desist from promiscuous and corrupt practices.
