Queens Agree To Fulfill Fixtures Today

The Malawi National Netball Team will this afternoon fulfil its final group match at the Africa Netball World Cup qualifiers against Zambia amid misunderstandings over allowances.

Yesterday the team boycotted training in protest over unpaid external allowances amounting to MK720, 000 for each player.

But speaking on condition of anonymity, one of the players with the team in Pretoria, South Africa, has told MBC Sports that the Queens have agreed to honour the fixture after being assured that they will get their money.

The spokesperson for the Malawi National Council of Sports, Edgar Mtulumbwa, also confirmed that the match will proceed as planned.

Mtulumbwa however clarified that the Queens will receive their allowances when they return home as agreed before departure.

He added that Sports Council communicated to the Netball Association of Malawi that it would only provide transport, food and accommodation for the trip while allowances would be settled upon return.

Malawi must beat second-placed Zambia to remain top of group B and face group A runners-up in the semifinals.

Both teams have already qualified for the semifinals.
