Mulhakho Wa Alhomwe Avoids Chakwera

He has been to Zambia for the Chewa’s Kulamba Ceremony. Before that he was in Mzimba for the Umthetho. Just recently, he was in Ntcheu for the Ngoni’s Umhlangano.

But President Lazarus Chakwera may not attend this year’s Mulhakho Wa Alhomwe Cultural festival as the organizers reveal they will not invite him to avoid compromising the ceremony. Whatever that means!

The group’s Southern Region Vice Chairperson, Blessings Makwinja has confirmed this ahead of the event slated for October 9, 2022 in Chonde, Mulanje. It has a budget of K180 million.

“The grouping does not want to compromise its operations hence excluding President Chakwera from the event,” says Makwinja.

But why? Makwinja claims the Malawi leader does not listen to the Lhomwe people’s voices.

He makes reference to what he calls the president’s failure to address hate speeches made by some people towards the tribe.

Further claims Makwinja: “There are also plans for government to stop the event from taking place but this will not succeed.”

Meanwhile, State House and government’s spokesperson, Gospel Kazako have not commented on the allegations.
