Government Commits to Supporting Free Media Ahead of Elections – Abida Mia

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for journalists to report freely during the upcoming elections.
Speaking this morning in Blantyre at the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Muslim Journalists, Mia emphasized the crucial role the media must play in promoting peace. She urged journalists to ensure their reports are accurate, balanced, and responsible, avoiding content that could incite violence or unrest.

Mia also pledged continued support for journalists across the country, acknowledging the important role they play in strengthening democracy.
Meanwhile, the President of the Association of Muslim Journalists, Chekautuwa Ndege, along with Organizing Chairperson Cassim Aubi, expressed gratitude for Mia’s support. They also called on fellow journalists to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in their reporting.
