The government’s ambitious project of constructing 10 thousand houses for the country’s security agencies in five years has faced a major setback as the fuel crisis reportedly affected construction works.
Deputy Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba lamented the situation when he inspected construction of ten police officers’ houses in Neno district earlier today.
However, Site Manager for the contractor handling the Neno project, Palms and Malbro Joint Venture, Shamil Littah reveals that almost 70 percent of the works are done.
He has assured that the houses will be ready by November this year.
For three times, the Neno project has missed its completion deadline with authorities blaming it on funding woes, rains and the district’s poor road network.
In the first phase, government only managed to construct 231 houses out of the expected 1000; attributing the failure to lack of funds.
Government launched the K20 billion housing project in 2020 to construct 10000 houses in five years but the Transport and Public Infrastructure Committee of Parliament cast doubt if authorities would meet the set deadline at the current pace.
