The Mangochi Senior Resident Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced 31-year-old Kassam Omar, and Muhammad Allie, 28, to 9 years imprisonment with hard labour each for damaging a motor vehicle and attempting to rob two Rwandese nationals.
Mangochi Police Publicist, Amina Tepani Daudi, told MBC that the two were apprehended on 9 June 2022.
“They demanded cash from the victims after they smashed the windows of their car and hacked their son on the right arm who sustained a deep cut and broken bone,” said Daudi.
Resident Magistrate Rodrick Michongwe passed a stiffer sentence to deter would-be offenders.
Omar hails from M’baluku Village, Traditional Authority Chowe while Allie comes from Mwanyama Village, Traditional Authority Mponda both in Mangochi.
