More efforts and interventions are needed for Malawi to deal the increasing cases of suicide as revelations indicate that Ntchisi District registered 16 cases between January and October this year.
These are aged between 13 and 59 and out of the 16, only one is a woman.
“10 cases are from the parent station, 4 from Malomo Police Unit, and two from Kansonga Police Unit,” says Ntchisi Police spokesperson, Yohane Tasowana.
He adds this prompted the police to have an interface with communities at Senior Chief Kalumo’s Headquarters in the district.
In remarks, Ntchisi Police Officer-In-Charge and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Emily Kaludzu Assistant Commissioner of Police called on the chiefs to take an active role in helping to end the malpractice.
She further implored on the people to seek advice from responsible bodies including the police when having issues instead of committing suicide.
Statistics show that 58 people nationwide killed committed suicide in October this year alone.
