Mangochi Municipal Council has new Mayor, Councillor, Imani Chisuse of the United Democratic Front (UDF) following elections on Thursday.
The new Mayor representing Ndege Ward won with six votes against Wellingtone Mangulenje who obtained five votes and will serve the council as Mayor for two and half years.
In the same elections, Councillor, George Nyungwa of Msikisi Ward of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was elected unopposed as Deputy Mayor.
Following his election, Chisuse said he was grateful for winning the trust of fellow councillors and assured the councillors that he will work hard until Mangochi Municipal Council roads are improved to bitumen standard. He also called for coordination among the council and it’s partners.
The Office of Municipal Mayor became vacant following the death of Councillor, Edna Yusuf Jose of Mwasa Ward on August 14, 2022.
