A former Kamuzu Central Hospital security guard, Emmanuel Sande, 33 is in police custody in Lilongwe for allegedly stealing valuable assorted office equipment at the hospital.
Lilongwe Police Station Inspector Hastings Chigalu has confirmed the development.
“The suspect hired a motor vehicle (Van) at a certain rank in town, telling them that KCH was transferring some office equipment to Chilinde Health Centre on Cholera disease programme,” says Chigalu.
It is reported that the suspect opened the main door using keys but, broke the interior doors to reach the other rooms where some of the items were stored.
Some people observed the scenario and became suspicious with the activities.
“Later, the suspect attempted to escape after some people noticed his suspicious moves. This time, he had already loaded into the van an upright fridge, a display cabinet, four executive swing office chairs, one metal lounge chair and office table,” adds Chigalu.
