The government through the Ministry of Lands has handed over 20 staff housing units to Mzuzu Prison as one way of easing accommodation challenges within the security agencies in the country.
Deputy Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba, hinted that government will continue constructing decent and modern houses for men and women in uniform.
“After seeing the acute shortage of housing units within the security agencies in the country, His Excellency the President, Dr Lazarus Chakwera, directed that government should build 10,000 houses within five years,” said Gumba.
Minister of Homeland Security, Jean Sendeza, advised the prison staff in Mzuzu to take proper care of the facilities.
She then directed that the department must re-introduce the House Inspection Programme to ensure maximum care of institutional houses.
In attendance were Mzuzu City Deputy Mayor, Councillor Toney Mwenitete and MCP Regional Chairman for the North-South, Joseph Chavula among others.
