The Roads Authority (RA) has commenced rehabilitation works for damaged roads and bridges in the Southern Region of Malawi.
This follows the devastation by Tropical Cyclone Freddy, which led to the collapse of bridges while some roads are cut off in the region.
Speaking at Msuwadzi Bridge along the Thyolo-Thekerani-Makhanga Road, which is also one of the sites under rehabilitation, RA’s Spokesperson, Portia Kajanga, said similar works are underway in equally affected areas.
“From Saturday last week it was hard to cross here, but now with these temporal rehabilitation works, people can cross the bridge.
“This will also ease transportation challenges,” said Kajanga.
The Southern Region has about 43 sites that need fixing.
