Dowa, May 17: District Commissioner for Dowa, Stallichi Mwambiwa, says sending children to school is the only way parents in the district can complement local government efforts of improving access to education.
Mwambiwa made the remarks on Tuesday at Jidi Primary School in Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa in the district when he officially handed over a classroom block to the community which has been constructed under Community Development Fund (CDF).
He said Dowa District Council is making all efforts to ensure that there are enough classroom blocks to increase access to education, but advised parents to reciprocate the gesture by ensuring that all children are in school.
“We are trying our best to make sure we have enough infrastructure for our schools, but infrastructure alone is not enough as the most important thing is to have children in school,” he said.

The district Commissioner added that an educated generation could assist in providing solutions to challenges the district and country at large is facing, hence the need to intensify efforts in improving education standards.
In his remarks, Member of Parliament for the area, Sam Kawale, urged the community to take good care of the infrastructure.
On his part, Chairperson for School Management Committee, Nevson Manyetera, pledged to enforce measures to protect the facility which, he said, is expected to motivate both, in and out-of-school children and teachers.
