Habitant for Humanity Malawi recently donated blankets, tents, mats, hoes, ropes and solar lighting lamps worthy MK134 Million to 434 survivors of tropical cyclone Freddy in Zomba.
Speaking at Kachulu ground during the hand-over ceremony, Habitant for humanity National Director, Enock Kapila said the organization felt it necessary to support victims of the cyclone who are in dire need of assistance.
Kapila said habitant for Humanity which is a charitable organisation has a role of complementing to governments efforts of rebuilding lives of the affected.
” with the support , we expect people to have a temporary relief as they find means of rebuilding their lives,” said Kapira.
Apart from providing relief items, the organisation would also offer free construction training to the community.
Director of Administration for Zomba District Council, Regson Mkolombwe hailed habitant for humanity Malawi for the timely support, adding government alone cannot reach out to each and every affected household.
Mkolombwe said Zomba is one of the most hit districts and most of the survivors are looking for support including shelter kits.
Group Village Headman Mbalu while acknowledging the support warned his people from selling out the relief items.
