United Transformation Movement (UTM) has rejected a preliminary report on the cause of the plane crash that claimed the lives of late Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima and 8 others on June 10, 2024.
The German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) on Friday last week released a report detailing what happened before and after the plane crash.
The report shows that the plane was without a Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) or a Flight Data Recorder (FDR).
According to the US-based National Transportation Safety Board, the Cockpit Voice Recorder “records radio transmissions and sounds in the flight deck to aid subsequent investigation should an accident or incident occur”.
The report also claim that the plane collided with a tree trunk before crashing.
But speaking at Masintha Ground where UTM held a mega rally on Sunday, the party’s Campaign Director Makwenda Chunga said the party dismisses the the whole report.
He then asked President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to institute a Commission of inquiry on the cause of the plane crash which should comprise representative from all concerned parties namely; UTM, family, Parliamentary committee, faith leaders and others.
Effort to talk to Minister of Information and Digitization Moses Kunkuyu proved futile
