FC Barcelona has announced a new incoming transfer during the ongoing international break.

“FC Barcelona and UD Las Palmas have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Ivan Cedric to Barca Atletic for one season, until June 30, 2025,” a statement sent to members of the press on Friday afternoon in Catalonia read.

“The agreement includes a purchase option at the end of the season for the Blaugrana club. The official act of signing the contract will be pending,” it added.

UD Las Palmas confirmed the transfer last Friday as the summer window closed, with Mundo Deportivo adding that the option to buy is valued at a relatively low $3.3 million (€3 million).

The following day, however, SPORT explained that the transfer was ‘in jeopardy’ because Cedric was not registered on time.

This was thanks to a computer error, which Barca did not believe to be its own fault.

To this end, the club was certain that it has taken all the necessary steps to carry out the loan correctly. And while it had to delete a post related to announcing Cerdric’s temporary capture, Barca filed a claim to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to get the deal over the line.

A week later, the RFEF has given its approval to the transfer meaning that that the 22-year-old can now form part of Albert Sanchez’s squad.

While the Barca first team has made just two incoming transfers in Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, Cedric – who has previously played for an outfit Hansi Flick’s men thumped 7-0 last weekend in Real Valladolid – is the reserve team’s ninth.

Cedric will look to provide competition to the likes of Victor Barbera and Diego Pervcan when the latter returns from injury.

Above all, he and the other eight acquisitions this summer for Barca Atletic will hope to echo the trajectory of Pau Victor, who arrived on loan from Girona this time last year ahead of Barca making his move permanent for a few million dollars ahead of 2024/2025 thanks to an impressive season as the league’s top goalscorer.

After raising eyebrows on the preseason tour of the United States, scoring a goal against Manchester City and a brace at Real Madrid’s expense, Pau Victor stayed with the first team and is trying to find a way to regular minutes on the front line.

In the same preseason, Cedric enjoyed playing time against Al Sadd, Al Shabab and Inter Milan for Las Palmas.

Furthermore, the 22-year-old was a starter against Sergi Roberto’s new club Como 1907 and Granada CF scoring goals in each appearanc
