Health authorities in Malawi have reported 44 Mpox alerts, all of which have tested negative, according to Kondwani Mamba, Deputy Director for Community and Promotive Health in the Ministry of Health. Mamba confirmed the news during a media briefing on cholera, measles, and Mpox, following reports of cholera and measles cases in some districts.
Speaking to Capital FM, Mamba highlighted that Blantyre recorded the highest number of Mpox alerts, followed by Lilongwe and Dowa. Despite the negative results, Mamba stressed that the Ministry of Health will maintain its vigilant surveillance of Mpox at all points of entry across the country.
Mpox, a zoonotic disease, presents symptoms such as a painful rash, swollen lymph nodes, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, and low energy. While the situation remains under control, the ministry remains committed to monitoring potential cases to ensure the continued safety and health of the population.
As Malawi deals with outbreaks of cholera and measles in some districts, the Ministry of Health is taking a comprehensive approach to tackle multiple health concerns, ensuring swift responses to all alerts.
