People’s Party Shadow MP Martha Minandi (Akuka) has assured constituents that she’ll continue supporting youths affected by poverty and unemployment.
“I will keep on empowering youths through sports, rather than letting them fall into drug abuse and harmful activities,” Minandi said at Chichiri Primary School’s football ground during a two-day boys and girls bonanza in the area of Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba district.
Minandi also disclosed that she has spent over K1.6 million on youth empowerment and urges other well-wishers to help.
Bonanza Chairperson Goodson Potani praised Minandi’s initiatives, aligning with former President Dr. Joyce Banda’s vision.
Potani said the winning teams received K50,000 (boys) and K40,000 (girls), with smaller prizes for second and third place.
He added that Eight teams participated, with Youngster taking top honors in football (5-3 penalties against Chitowe) and Sweepers netball team winning 25-20 against Iwisa.
Village Headman Nambesa, Lucy Phiri, commended Minandi’s efforts, by citing the move as proper mentorship and alternatives to harmful behaviors.
