Mental Health Expert Urges Vigilance for Mental Well-being in Workplaces

By Burnett Munthali

Mental health expert Lombani Mhango has emphasized the need for vigilance in maintaining sound mental health in workplaces. Speaking during a mental health session with workers from various clinics in Lilongwe on Tuesday, Mhango stressed that mental well-being is crucial for optimal performance in professional environments.

The session brought together employees from Lilongwe Medical and Skin Clinic, Skin Medi-Pharmacy, and Wathu Clinic. Mhango noted that individuals struggling with mental health issues often struggle to function normally at work. He urged people to seek help from mental health specialists when needed, as addressing these challenges is essential for both personal and professional well-being.

“People who are not mentally healthy cannot conduct themselves normally at work. It’s important that people recognize when they need help and seek assistance from mental health professionals,” Mhango stated.

Tenganawo Mzumara, head of the dermatology department at Kamuzu Central Hospital and Managing Director of the three clinics, highlighted the importance of the session. She organized it to ensure her staff remains mentally stable, allowing them to deliver the best care possible to their patients.

“Our workers need to be mentally fit to provide quality care to patients. Their mental well-being directly impacts how well they serve those who come to us for help,” Mzumara said.

The session serves as a reminder of the critical role mental health plays in both personal and workplace environments, encouraging more open discussions and proactive measures to support employees.
