The Parliamentary Committee on Justice has revealed that its investigation into High Court Judge Kenan Manda has uncovered serious allegations that require further in-depth inquiry.
Committee Chairperson Peter Dimba told reporters in Lilongwe that, according to the law, the committee does not have the power to take direct action, such as removing Judge Manda from his position. Instead, they have referred the matter to the Judicial Service Commission and the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) for further investigation and possible action.
Dimba explained that parliamentary standing orders do not provide members of parliament with the authority to remove a judge from office. He has therefore urged the two bodies to expedite the investigation, as the public has shown significant interest in the case.
The outcome of this investigation will be closely followed, with many citizens awaiting transparency and justice in the process.
