By Burnett Munthali

A passenger has tragically died in a road accident in Kasungu, while the driver of the truck involved sustained minor injuries after the vehicle overturned.

Kasungu Police Public Relations Officer, James Kachikho, has confirmed the identity of the deceased as Gift Kamanga. The incident occurred near Chinyenya Village along the M1 Road.

According to Kachikho, the accident took place when the truck, driven by Martin Benson, experienced a tyre burst, causing the vehicle to overturn. The truck was loaded with bags of cement at the time of the accident.

“The truck was cruising while loaded with bags of cement when it overturned and in the process, killing a passenger,” Kachikho explained.

The passenger was immediately rushed to Nkhamenya Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival due to severe head injuries.

Police are still gathering information regarding the ages and backgrounds of both the driver and the deceased. The driver is currently receiving treatment at Nkhamenya Hospital, where he was admitted following the accident.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
