Three lucky winners each walked away with K1 million after correctly guessing the contents of a mystery box during the launch of Wella Medical Aid and Society’s (Wemas) new affordable health insurance product. The event took place on July 9 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC).
The Thanzi Mystery Box Challenge, run in partnership with Airtel Malawi, invited participants nationwide to guess what was inside the box.

Wemas Chief Operations Officer, Gift Nyawundi, said the competition was part of efforts to raise awareness about the importance of medical insurance and to encourage uptake of private healthcare cover.
“Only about 200,000 Malawians have medical insurance. Our aim is to create products that are simple, primary, and affordable. With Thanzi, premiums start from K500 per month for an annual benefit of K2 million,” Nyawundi said.

One of the winners, Catherine Kumchulesi, a student at Luanar, shared her excitement and future plans.
“It was thrilling to hear my name called out because so many people were competing. With this money, I plan to invest in shares, which I believe will grow over time and help me build a stable financial future,” she said.
Nyawundi revealed that Wemas will roll out more promotions next week, offering weekly and monthly prizes as part of its mission to expand healthcare access across Malawi.
