National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) has urged youths to contest in various to in various political positions.
NYCOM Executive Director Rex Chapota said youths should think beyond being voters but they should aspire to be voted for.
He said this on Friday where he was briefing the press on this year’s Youth Summit to take place on 11 and 12 November in Lilongwe.
“We are promoting and encouraging young people to take part in political offices, we are also working with different stakeholders so that we should have a special fund for young aspirants, young people should also be ambassadors of peace during the coming general elections,” he said.
He added that during the summit they will also have the annual general assembly which the council has not held for the past eight years. he said the annual general assembly is important as it helps youths to bring in resolutions and recommendations on how they can take part in national development.
In her remarks Chair of Protocol for the summit Doreen Chiliche said the summit will go beyond building the capacity of young people, saying the event will include we are Malawi Cultural Festival where young people will show case their creative arts.
She also said the summit will comprise of young people from all the districts across the country.
This theme for this year’s Youth summit is “Renewed Commitment to Youth Development Towards Malawi 2063.
