Former Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has shared the inspiring story behind the construction of the Golden Peacock Hotels in Malawi.
Mutharika made the remarks at Golden Peacock Hotel in Blantyre where DPP is holding its fundraising dinner and dance.
He said during his 2015 visit to China, Mutharika proposed the idea of building two hotels – one in Lilongwe and another in Blantyre – to Saegocoa officials.
“This successful partnership has resulted in a significant milestone in Malawi’s infrastructure development, showcasing the strong ties between Malawi and China, as well as the country’s growing hospitality sector,” he said.
Mutharika emphasized the importance of fundraising for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of next year’s elections.
He stressed that adequate resources are crucial for the party’s success.
Mutharika addressed claims of illicit funding of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and reassured DPP members of his commitment to the party’s mission.
He said: “I am ready to be counted on. Can I count on you?” he asked, rallying support for the upcoming elections.
In his remarks, Honourable Joseph Mwanamvekha, DPP Vice President for the South, expressed gratitude to the fundraising committee and highlighted the significance of the initiative in mobilizing voter registration and support.
The Golden Peacock Hotels, located in the heart of Lilongwe and Blantyre, boast impressive amenities, including restaurants, fitness centers, and rooms with free WiFi access.
However, the Lilongwe hotel faced temporary closure due to sanitation standard issues.
