National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Plc has contributed K5 million toward the 2024 Parliament Week, which runs from November 18 to 22 under the theme “Know Your Parliament.”
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Maureen Gwembere, Service Centre Manager for NBM’s Lilongwe branch, highlighted the bank’s dedication to community development. She noted that part of the donation would support the Malingunde School of the Blind, reflecting the bank’s commitment to assisting vulnerable groups.
“As a bank, we believe in giving back to the community. Supporting Parliament Week aligns with our corporate social responsibility initiatives, and we are particularly proud that part of the funds will go toward the Malingunde School of the Blind, promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities,” Gwembere said.
Lovemore Nyongo, Head of Planning Services at Malawi Parliament, expressed profound gratitude for the bank’s support. He emphasized that the contribution would play a vital role in achieving the objectives of Parliament Week.
“This generous donation from National Bank of Malawi Plc is a significant boost to our efforts. Parliament Week is an important platform for citizens to understand the workings of Parliament, and such support ensures its success,” Nyongo stated.
The week-long event seeks to enhance public understanding of Parliament’s roles and operations, fostering greater civic engagement and transparency. Activities include open sessions, educational tours, and interactive discussions aimed at bridging the gap between Parliament and the citizens it represents.
NBM’s contribution underscores the importance of partnerships in promoting civic education and supporting communities, further cementing its role as a socially responsible corporate citizen.
