In a shocking turn of events, Allan Ngumuya, a former DPP member who lost his Chilobwe/Zingwangwa seat to Noel Lipipa of DPP, has come out strongly against an alliance between UTM and DPP. However, sources close to the matter have revealed that Ngumuya’s sudden change of heart is not a coincidence, but rather a desperate attempt by the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to divide the opposition and maintain their grip on power.
Ngumuya’s initial support for an alliance between UTM and DPP was seen as a positive step towards unity among opposition parties. However, his sudden U-turn has raised eyebrows, with many questioning his motives. Insiders have revealed that Ngumuya has been in close contact with MCP officials, who have been using him to spread propaganda and create divisions within the opposition.
The MCP’s strategy is clear: to use Ngumuya’s influence to create a rift between UTM and DPP, and prevent them from forming a united front against the ruling party. However, this plan is unlikely to succeed, as both UTM and DPP have made it clear that they are committed to working together to save Malawi from the MCP’s misrule.
In fact, sources within the opposition have revealed that UTM and DPP are closer than ever, with talks of a potential alliance gaining momentum. The two parties have been working together to identify areas of commonality and develop a shared vision for Malawi’s future.
Meanwhile, the MCP is growing increasingly desperate as the 2025 elections approach. With their popularity dwindling and their record in government under scrutiny, they are using every trick in the book to cling to power. However, their attempts to divide the opposition are unlikely to succeed, as Malawians are increasingly united in their desire for change.
As one analyst noted, “The MCP’s strategy of using Allan Ngumuya to destabilize the opposition is a sign of desperation. They know they cannot win the 2025 elections on their own merits, so they are trying to create divisions and confusion among the opposition. However, this plan is unlikely to succeed, as Malawians are increasingly united in their desire for change.”¹
The MCP’s attempt to use Allan Ngumuya to divide the opposition is a desperate and cynical move. However, it is unlikely to succeed, as UTM and DPP remain committed to working together to save Malawi from the MCP’s misrule. As the 2025 elections approach, one thing is clear: Malawians will not be fooled by the MCP’s tricks, and they will demand a better future for themselves and their country.
