Seasoned Journalist Ephraim Mkali Banda, has went into hiding since 7th February, 2025 after reporting in the media the incident involving Minister of Transport in the MCP led government Jacob Hara who was chased by his Mzimba-Solola constituents.

Hara, who is Member of Parliament for the area was expected to address a meeting at Chanthomba school ground when the community members reacted angrily that Hara has nothing to speak to them after failing to fulfill his campaign promises citing road infrastructure projects.

The constituents claimed that the roads such as Chimkusa, Mzimba school and Chanthomba are in dilapidated state as if the people of the area have no representative in the National Assembly hence finding no reason for Hara to address them with elections fever between mouth and nose in September, 2025.

A source speaking on a strict condition of anonymity, said a group of four youth believed to be from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) went to Mzimba Community Radio Station with a picture of Ephraim Mkali Banda to inquire if he was present.

The source said when the four youth were quizzed on what special was Mkali Banda to them, they narrated the whole story after being told that he was not in the office and he does sometimes come to the office but not very often.

He said the four youth did not miss words but to tell the truth that they are hunting for him for destroying the name of their Member of Parliament (MP) who is also a serving cabinet Minister in the Chakwera’s led government.

“He has destroyed the good image of our trusted Member of Parliament in the MCP, we will hunt for him until we catch him,” said the four youth.

When contacted, Mkali Banda said he is in an unknown destination fearing for his life after reporting the truth as per his job saying he committed no offence at all but the only sin he made was reporting that the Minister was chased, he could have hidden the information to the public.

Mkali Banda said he already reported the incident to Mzimba Police Station that unknown thugs are hunting for him.

A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has accused the MCP of continuing displaying evil plans against opposition party leaderS, activists and journalists assuring them that they will not succeed in their plans.

Kamphangala said the attack of one journalist is an attack to all saying if all journalists unite to write bad stories against the MCP in the run up to the 16th September, 2025 elections, MCP and President Chakwera will be nothing.

He has advised the youth to refrain from being used by failed politicians in acts of violence warning them that if the MCP loses the elections, their masters will run away outside the country and them will remain in Malawi living as slaves.
