In a successful operation, police in Dowa have recovered two slaughtered bulls suspected to have been stolen by unknown criminals in the district.

According to Sergeant Alice Sitima, Public Relations Officer for Dowa Police Station, the recovery was made on February 17th, 2025, after a tip-off led officers from Chibvala Police Unit to mount a roadblock along Kasungu-Lilongwe Road.

The roadblock resulted in the interception of a Toyota Nadia vehicle with registration number MZ 9928, carrying four passengers.

As the officers approached, the passengers abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bush in various directions.

A thorough search of the vehicle revealed the two slaughtered bulls, which were later identified by their owner, Moffat Wilesie, 54, of Chimungu Village, Traditional Authority Dzoole in the district.

The successful recovery of the stolen bulls is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Dowa police.

However, the investigation is still ongoing, and the police are working to apprehend the suspects.

Sergeant Sitima confirmed that the police are following leads and gathering evidence to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The theft of livestock is a serious concern in Malawi, particularly in rural areas where many people rely on farming and animal husbandry for their livelihoods.

The recovery of the stolen bulls is a welcome relief for the owner and the community, and it sends a strong message that the police are committed to tackling crime and protecting the rights of citizens.

As the investigation continues, the police are urging anyone with information about the theft or the suspects to come forward.

The successful recovery of the stolen bulls is a positive step towards justice, and it is hoped that the perpetrators will be brought to justice soon.

In related news, the Dowa police have been actively engaged in various operations to combat crime in the district.

Recently, they arrested eight Malawian nationals and one Rwandese for suspected involvement in a series of criminal activities.

The police have also been working to address the issue of vandalism, having arrested five men suspected of stealing and vandalizing equipment belonging to the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM).

The Dowa police’s efforts to combat crime and protect the community are commendable, and it is hoped that their hard work will continue to yield positive results.
