Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Sidik Mia has reaffirmed her commitment to developing her constituency, Chikwawa Nkombedzi, by launching the construction of Fodya Bridge along Njiza River.
Mia’s promise comes as a relief to residents who have been facing mobility challenges since the previous bridge was damaged by floods.
The bridge, which will cost approximately 165 million Kwacha, is expected to be completed within three months.
The new bridge will be constructed in the area of Group Village Head Fodya, and its completion is expected to ease the struggles of the community.
Chikwawa District Commissioner Nardin Kamba commended Mia for her efforts, emphasizing the importance of quality construction.
Kamba recognized that the bridge would not only improve mobility but also contribute significantly to the local economy by connecting the community more effectively.
Senior Chief Ngabu also expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the community’s struggles following Cyclone Freddy’s devastation.
He noted that the construction of the new bridge would help alleviate some of the hardships residents have faced since the disaster.
Chief Ngabu further urged residents to keep a watchful eye on the construction site to prevent theft of materials, ensuring that the project progresses smoothly and on schedule.
This development marks a significant step in improving infrastructure and mobility in the Chikwawa Nkombedzi constituency, which will have far-reaching benefits for local residents. The new Fodya Bridge will not only ease travel but also improve access to essential services and promote economic growth in the region.
Mia’s leadership in addressing these critical infrastructural issues reflects her dedication to improving the quality of life for the people of Chikwawa and the broader Southern Region of Malawi.
