People’s Development Party President Right Honourable Dr. Kondwani Nankhumwa attended this year’s Mulhako wa Alhomwe cultural festival at Chonde Headquarters in Mulanje on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

While there, Dr. Nankhumwa paid a courtesy call on the Alhomwe Paramount Chief Kaduya where he also presented gifts to young girls who have underwent initiation. He later proceeded to meet kachaso (traditional spirit) brewing women where he also presented gifts of wrappers (zitenje)..

The Right Honourable Dr. Nankhumwa attended the cultural festival despite efforts by some organizers of this years event to frustrate his attendance.

Before his arrival, there were scuffles between Nankhumwa’s security team and some of the organizers when the latter tried to displace a seat designated for Nankhumwa arguing he did not deserve to sit on a front row.

This, according to some observers, is in sharp contrast to this year’s theme which is UNITY OF PURPOSE.

This year’s event was also attended by members of different political parties among them UDF, PDP, DPP and AFORD.

Former President Peter Mutharika was the Guest of honour.
