The Member of Parliament for Zomba Malosa, Grace Kwelepeta, has rejected the proposal for Parliament to purchase only new tires for her vehicle after unknown individuals punctured them with a knife.
The attack on her vehicle occurred on the day President Lazarus Chakwera was responding to questions in Parliament.
Speaking to Zodiak Online, Kwelepeta stated that she does not only need new tires but also the repair of other damages caused to her car during the incident.
She emphasized that in addition to the tires, Parliament should also replace the front windshield, the rear door, and the lights, which were all damaged.
Kwelepeta revealed that after rejecting the offer, she was informed that the Parliamentary Service Committee would soon meet to discuss the matter.

However, she expressed concern that the process could take too long because Parliament is set to conclude its current session on April 11.
Meanwhile, Parliament’s spokesperson, Ian Mwenye, has stated that they need more time to investigate the issue before making an official response.
It has now been a month since the criminal act was committed, leading to the destruction of several vehicles belonging to Members of Parliament.
The delay in addressing the situation has raised concerns among affected lawmakers, who fear that justice may not be served in time.
As investigations continue, the attack on parliamentary members’ vehicles remains a matter of serious security concern within the legislative body.
