A Malawian citizen, Patriot and the defender of democracy Comrade Imraan Alhaji Jumbe, has reminded the Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) that the power belongs to the people, and when the people rise-not even a rigged system can stand for Malawi, for justice and for democracy.
Comrade Jumbe says it loud and clear that Malawians are not satisfied with the current Electoral body conducting their business saying it is business unusual that the very system that put the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) into government has been turned out to be bad today.
He says the citizens of Malawi cannot remain silent while the Mec continues to mishandle the very process that determines the future of their beloved nation calling for a fresh voter registration exercise that is transparent, inclusive and verifiable.
Writing on his face book page, Comrade Jumbe has given a-seven -day ultimatum to Mec demanding immediate resignation of Justice Annabel Mtalimanja and other MCP –aligned figures who have compromised the institution’s integrity.
Comrade Jumbe has warned Mec that should it fail to heed his call, on the 8th day, he, as a law abiding patriotic citizen-will file a strong case in court to nullify the current fraudulent registration process, and demanding that MCP loyalists be forcibly removed from the Commission’s leadership.
He has assured the Mec that Malawians will not watch silently for their hard-won democracy to be auctioned to the highest bidder calling upon all citizens of goodwill, all defenders of justice, and all lovers of truth to join him at the court to stand together for the soul of their Republic.
“The recent voter registration exercise was marred with glaring irregularities, discrepancies and deliberate fraud-all seemingly designed to favor the MCP,” reads Alhaji Jumbe’s writings on the wall.
He says from double registration to exclusion of millions of potential voters, to rushed processes that denied ordinary Malawians their constitutional right- this registration was not just flawed it was poisoned from the roots.
Comrade Jumbe has expressed fears that the use of Smartmatic machine-a system shrouded in controversy across the globe has only added fuel to the fire noting with a grave concern that Mec has flatly refused to allow political parties or independent citizens to audit the process in total violation of democratic tradition, transparency and accountability.
