Pan-Africanist and Revolutionary leader Bantu Saunders Jumah, has called on Africa-Malawi to craft a new system where the system of government must serve people not a few people, not ruling parties in government, not government officials for the country to change politically, economically and socially.
Jumah said government of the people, for the people and by the people is not making any sense saying democracy was supposed to be transparent and African leaders to be accountable observing that the elections of 2019 went into chaos although the European Union declared it free and fair.
He said in September, 2025 there will be no free and fair elections in Malawi because the Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) is serving the interest of the government of the day neglecting the will of the 20 million plus citizens.
Speaking in his Revolutionary civic and voter education campaign, Jumah has claimed that the Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) has been giving the country problems right at the time it changed its name from Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec).
Jumah said in 2019 the Mec under Justice Dr. Jane Ansah was serving the appointing authority observing that in September, 2025 the very same Mec is doing the same as done by the DPP, it is serving the interests of the MCP and President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
He has called upon opposition political parties to come together to issue an ultimatum for the Mec to go back to its original name Independent Electoral Commission saying church organizations, traditional leaders must see to it that the country has a neutral body to run elections in Malawi.
The Revolutionary has claimed that in the absence of the Independent Electoral Commission, Malawi will never conduct free and fair elections saying in 2019, opposition parties demanded accountability of the voters’ roll, DPP and UDF defended the Mec of Justice Jane Ansah.
“Today, all opposition parties are complaining of Mec not to use the Smartmatic machines on the claims that in countries where it has been used, there have been chaos but here in Malawi, Mec and the MCP have vowed to use the machines.
He has claimed that 31 years of the country’s democracy has been blackmailed by Mec, assuring patriotic Malawians that there will be no free and fair elections as long as Mec continue to be administering elections in the country.
Jumah said it is no wonder that the CSO Coalition received ridicule and insults from Mec observing that Malawians have no choice but to go back to the Independent Electoral Commission to conduct free and fair elections.
He has warned Malawians that failure by the Mec to change its name to its earlier name the Independent Electoral Commission to level the playing field, all future elections starting with the 2019, 2025 will be a -violent elections which is a recipe for civil war in Malawi
