The Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has entered into a landmark memorandum of understanding with the Malawi National Council of Sports aimed at enhancing the visibility and development of sports in the country.

Through this agreement, the two institutions will collaborate closely to ensure comprehensive coverage of all sporting disciplines across all of MBC’s platforms.

The partnership is designed to uplift the profile of sports in Malawi by providing consistent and inclusive media coverage, ensuring that various codes gain the recognition they deserve.

Chief Executive Officer of the Malawi National Council of Sports, Henry Kamata, said the initiative was developed to give all sports disciplines an opportunity to showcase their talents and reach both aspiring and established athletes.

He emphasized that this approach would not only motivate young talent but also strengthen the sports ecosystem by increasing engagement and awareness at all levels.

On the other hand, MBC’s Director of Engineering, Aidan Gumen, reaffirmed the public broadcaster’s commitment to the new initiative.

He stated that MBC possesses the technical and logistical capacity to beam all types of sporting events across the country.

Gumen assured the sports fraternity that MBC will take the lead in offering broad and inclusive coverage of sporting activities, bringing both local and lesser-known sports into the national spotlight.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward transforming sports coverage in Malawi and is expected to contribute positively to the promotion and professionalization of sports across the nation.
