By Hon. Allan Ngumuya
My fellow Malawians, especially the youth – you have just witnessed one of the most humiliating and chaotic weeks in our nation’s history.
After five years of empty promises, including the so-called creation of one million jobs, the current administration has only succeeded in frustrating and exploiting young people.
Now, with elections approaching, the same government that failed you is shamelessly attempting to lure youth with handouts ranging from K5,000 to K200,000, depending on the setting. These are desperate attempts to win your vote through bribery, not vision.
From the moment artists like Patience Namadingo publicly rejected these payments, it became clear that this strategy is not about empowerment – it’s about manipulation.
Ugly party-branded T-shirts are now being distributed with the promise that those who wear them will receive K5,000. Is that the value they place on your future?
My message to you, the youth of Malawi, is this: no amount of money is worth your voice and your vote.
You must choose leaders who have a proven ability to transform our economy and create real opportunities. Open your eyes.
Look at the humiliating scenes at stadiums where thousands of desperate young people are invited for what they are told are “interviews.” In reality, they are being used to create the illusion of opportunity.
This is nothing more than a carrot dangling from a string – a trap.
Let me be clear: the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) government has shown itself to be cruel, clueless, and careless about the future of Malawians – especially the youth, the so-called Generation Z.
They think you are stupid. Prove them wrong.
They are using taxpayers’ money to bribe village headmen and chiefs, trying to buy influence and votes instead of earning your trust with real policies.
Let’s stop this. Talk to your peers, your neighbors, and your relatives in the villages. Civic education begins with you. Tell them not to vote blindly this time.
Our President has become a laughingstock. Weekly rallies are held where people are bribed K50,000 each to attend. This happens while hospitals run out of medicines and basic goods like maize and sugar become unaffordable.
The government spends on propaganda instead of solving real problems.
They have destroyed the economy and now treat it as a private purse. If they are given another five years, Malawi will collapse beyond repair.
It is time to resonate with a leader who offers real solutions, not recycled grievances and clueless governance.
Choose a leader with a clean record, proven results, and a credible vision for Malawi. A leader like Dr. Dalitso Kabambe.
This government is desperate to hold on to power, but they offer the youth nothing in return – no jobs, no hope, no future. You will be left to suffer while they live in luxury.
Just look at the stadium turnouts – thousands of unemployed youth showing up for non-existent jobs. It’s a national disgrace.
Young people, be angry. Have righteous anger. They are taking you for granted.
Do what you did in 2020 when you voted the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) out. Things are even worse now. It’s time for a bold decision.
You may ask, “What’s the alternative?” Let’s be honest.
If you compare candidates—Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM), Dr. Dalitso Kabambe (DK), and President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera (LMC)—you’ll notice clear differences.
APM has been tried before. He was voted out for a reason.
Chakwera has mismanaged everything – food prices, inflation, public trust. Why give him another chance?
Dr. Dalitso Kabambe stands out. He has served in the Malawi government for 25 years, under Presidents Bakili Muluzi, Bingu wa Mutharika, Joyce Banda, and APM.
He was appointed by all these leaders because of his unmatched competence.
As Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi in 2017, he stabilized the economy with single-digit inflation and low interest rates. Under this current government, inflation has soared and the kwacha has plummeted from K738 to over K4,000 per dollar.
The difference is clear.
Let’s honor the legacy of the late Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, who also believed in a brighter future for Malawi. He died under mysterious circumstances en route to a funeral – a tragedy we must not forget.
Malawians, especially the youth, do not let his vision die with him.
Let us unite and vote for Dr. Dalitso Kabambe on September 16, 2025.
Let’s end this suffering. Let’s rebuild Malawi.
Let’s vote wisely. Let’s vote for a better future.
