Chitsulo bids tearful farewell

People from all walks of life have gathered in solemn unity today to bid farewell to the late Deputy Minister of Local Government, Hon. Joyce Chitsulo, who passed away on Friday in Lilongwe.

The atmosphere was marked by sorrow, reflection, and remembrance as the nation mourned a leader described as compassionate, dedicated, and fearless.

The funeral ceremony, held at the Area 18 Cemetery in Lilongwe, drew high profile dignitaries, including Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, religious leaders, and community representatives.

President Lazarus Chakwera, in a moving tribute, praised Chitsulo for her unwavering service to the nation and her commitment to grassroots development.

“She worked with dignity and left an indelible mark on the communities she served,” he said.

Hon. Joyce Chitsulo, 47, had served in the Ministry of Local Government since 2023 and was previously known for her activism in women’s rights and rural development.

Her death, following a brief illness, has been described as a huge loss not only to her constituency in Mwanza West but to Malawi as a whole.
