Lilongwe, Malawi — A powerful celebration of gospel music and the enduring legacy of one of Malawi’s greatest gospel voices, the late Grace Chinga, is set to light up the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on July 6, 2025.
The event, dubbed Zikomo Malawi, marks the first edition of a music festival in honour of Chinga, nearly a decade after her untimely passing in 2016.
The concert is being spearheaded by her daughter, gospel artist Miracle Chinga, who has followed in her mother’s footsteps with spirit-lifting songs such as Thamanga and Hosanna.
“This has been my dream for years,” Miracle said. “I have always wanted to organise a platform that would lift my mother’s legacy and remind the nation of the message and power in her music.”
A stellar lineup of performers is expected to grace the stage, including The Great Angels Choir, Ndirande Anglican Voices, Evance Meleka, Maggie Mangani, Kamuzu Barracks Gospel Singers, Theresa Phondo, and Driemo, in a fusion of traditional gospel and contemporary sounds.
The event promises to be both a celebration and a moment of reflection, revisiting the work of Grace Chinga—whose timeless hits like Mundisungile Kolona and Anandigula remain staples in Malawi’s gospel music circles.
Zikomo Malawi aims to be an annual celebration, offering a space where gospel artists and fans can come together in unity, worship, and remembrance.
