Political activist Bon Kalindo has described Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba as a game changer in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) claiming that ever since he was appointed by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to be a Cabinet minister, he has proved to Malawians that he is capable and a deliverer.
Kalindo said Vitumbiko Mumba’s resignation from MCP National Executive Committee (NEC) should not be celebrated but the whole MCP should go back to the bedroom to find out where the party is getting it wrong for corrections.
He said Mumba’s departure is a clear evidence that in the country’s political parties, there is no democracy, democracy has gone to the dogs considering how parties especially the two parties MCP and DPP have handled primary elections.
The activist said Mumba has special wisdom, he did not want to join a bandwagon of hand clappers and as a result, he resigned as MCP NEC member and not as MCP member assuring MCP family that he remains loyal to the party not to 3 individuals and their surrogates masquerading as the party.
“I will campaign for President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera wherever possible, am thanking him for considering me to serve in the MCP NEC,” reads Mumba’s writings on the wall.
Writing on his face book page, Vitumbiko Mumba said after deep reflection for months, he cannot be in a NEC where 80 percent of co-opted members are those that never expressed interest to contest during convention, and don’t pay nomination fees, speaking for itself that these co-opted members are hand-clappers who cannot influence any decision to the party.
Mumba said in the MCP, there are man-made small-mega battles aimed at “kuthana” leaving this to those that have majored in that type of primitive politics to continue while him his focus will be on his constituency.
Kalindo has noted with a great concern that MCP and DPP have been at the helm of imposing candidates saying this has left many aspirants frustrated with some joining the opposition UTM and declaring themselves to stand independent on the 16th September, 2025 elections.
He said there have been alleged reports that some aspirants were paying money to NEC members to manipulate figures during primary elections for their victories and those sent to preside over the elections had their own preferred candidates to win.
The activist has expressed his heartfelt sympathy to Mr. Everton Chimulilenji who has been removed for a parliamentary seat to pave way for someone earmarked to be Speaker of Parliament, Dowa Ngala constituency where a preferred candidate was taken.
“There some candidates who are being endorsed, it happened in Mulanje Bale, Meno-Mwanza and Zomba where some candidates after being rejected by their parties, won parliamentary seats as independent candidates,” said Kalindo.
He has appealed to disgruntled MCP and DPP aspirants not to give up following their frustrations from primary elections, encouraging them to stand independent claiming that the choice is with the registered voters and not the parties.
