Bullets Blaze Into Airtel Top 8 Final After Edging Karonga United

By Burnett Munthali

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets booked their place in the final of this year’s Airtel Top 8 with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Karonga United at Bingu National Stadium on Saturday evening.

Goals from Chikumbutso Salima and Hassan Kajoke proved decisive in a tense semifinal encounter that showcased determination, skill, and drama.

The Bullets took early control of the match, dominating possession and pressing Karonga United deep into their own half.

Their pressure paid off when Chikumbutso Salima broke the deadlock with a composed finish following a precise cross from winger Peter Banda.

Karonga United, however, were not without chances of their own, and they nearly took the lead earlier in the first half.

Bullets goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba was called into action and made a crucial save that denied Karonga what could have been a momentum-shifting goal.

That moment proved pivotal, and the first half concluded with the Bullets holding a slender 1-0 advantage.

After the break, Karonga United came out with renewed intensity and found their equalizer through substitute Robert Ruhanga, who made an immediate impact.

Despite the setback, the Bullets responded with urgency and composure, quickly regaining control of the contest.

It was Hassan Kajoke who restored the lead for the defending champions, scoring a beautiful goal that highlighted his striker’s instinct and composure in front of goal.

Karonga United refused to go down without a fight, pushing forward in search of another equalizer and creating several dangerous chances.

However, the Bullets’ defense remained resilient and organized, withstanding the late pressure and clearing their lines when it mattered most.

At the final whistle, it was celebration for Peter Mponda and his charges, who had done just enough to secure a place in the final.

Speaking after the match, Bullets head coach Peter Mponda praised his players for their discipline and resolve throughout the 90 minutes.

On the other side, Karonga United head coach Oscar Kaunda accepted the result with grace, commending his players for their effort and sportsmanship.

With this victory, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets now await the winner of the second semifinal between Silver Strikers and Civo Service United, scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the same venue.

The Bullets will be hoping to carry their momentum into the final as they chase another piece of silverware in what has been a promising campaign.
